– Two key lawmakers have objected to the appointment of Tom Leney as both the director of the VA’s Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE) and the director of the VA’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU), arguing that the positions create a conflict of interest. – A final draft of the Arms Trade Treaty has been sent to United Nations member states for approval. If the Treaty is not approved by unanimous consensus at a final negotiation session today, negotiators will likely seek approval by winning support from two-thirds of the General Assembly members at a vote next week. – The Navy has announced it will purchase the technical specs for designs for the Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike System (UCLASS) from Boeing, General Atomics, Lockheed Martin, and Northrup Grumman. The companies will each produce a working prototype of the drone for a competitive fly-off, likely to occur in mid-2014. [Danger Room]
– The Department of Defense announced that it is reducing the number of furlough days more than 700,000 civilian defense workers must take between April and the end of the fiscal year from 22 days to 14 days. [Washington Post]
